And We're Off...Or Not

Mom, Dad, Lara, and I left home at about 2pm and drove in the rain to MCI. Our flight wasn’t until 6:45 so we had plenty of time to enjoy a cinnamon roll with Mom and Dad before going through security. No problems so far with lots of time to spare, we just waited in the gate area for over two hours before we were informed that our flight had been cancelled due to repeat mechanical failures and we all had to rebooked for another flight. So everyone on that flight waited in line for the next to couple hours (so much for our connection in Chicago at 9pm), but of course, the only other flight out tonight was to Denver and it was full. As we waited, we visited with a really lovely girl from south of Munich who was doing graduate work in economics at University of Kansas and was going home to see her family for Christmas. About 8pm, we were rebooked for 6:45am out of MCI and 3:50pm from O’Hare to Heathrow and were put up at the Four Points hotel just minutes from the airport. Frustrated and tired, we had dinner at the hotel restaurant before heading to bed.
